Danish movie week in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City this December

To celebrate the 40th year of diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Denmark, the Embassy of Denmark is putting on the Denmark movie Week.

To celebrate the 40th year of diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Denmark, the Embassy of Denmark is putting on the Denmark movie Week. The event includes two sessions: one is held at IDECAF Ho Chi Minh City from the 1st to the 6th of December 2011 and the other is from December 2nd to 7th at Cinematheque Hanoi. This is a chance for both Vietnamese and international expats in Vietnam to get to understand the development of the contemporary cinema industry in Denmark, as well as to witness its success in the Nordic state.

Premiering on this movie week are outstanding movies of Denmark cinema industry in numerous genres. Among them are many movies which have been awarded notable prizes domestically and internationally such as the Oscar 2010 for Best Foreign Language Movie “In a better world”, “What No One Knows” by SørenKragh-Jacobsen (2008) and “The Five Obstructions” (2003), directed by Lars von Trier and JørgenLeth. Modern horror movie “The Candidate” by Kasper Barfoed (2008) and the animating movie “The Apple and the Worm” by Anders Morgenthaler (2009) are also scheduled for screening.

Audiences who are interested in this movie week can obtain free ticket at Cinematheque Hanoi from 21st November and IDECAF Ho Chi Minh City from 22nd November. Each person is allowed to secure a couple of ticket per movie, and attendees are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes before the actual screening time.
 
Denmark cinematography began to massively develop and garner recognition all over the world since 1970s when Denmark government started to support financially in a bid to improve all aspects of the industry including production, scripting and the training of actors/actresses. The effort eventually leads to various achievements of Denmark movies on the global theatre such as Oscar, Golden Palm and numerous prizes in other reputable international movie festivals.
