Danish movie week in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City this December

To celebrate the 40th year of diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Denmark, the Embassy of Denmark is putting on the Denmark movie Week.

To celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Denmark, the Embassy of Denmark is organizing the Denmark Movie Week. This year, the event will take place in two sessions: one at IDECAF Ho Chi Minh City from December 1st to December 6th, 2025, and the other at Cinematheque Hanoi from December 2nd to December 7th, 2025. This event aims to foster a deeper understanding of Denmark's contemporary cinema industry among both Vietnamese audiences and international expats living in Vietnam.

The Denmark Movie Week will feature a selection of outstanding films from the Danish cinema industry, showcasing a variety of genres. Notable screenings include award-winning films that have gained international acclaim, such as the Oscar-winning film “In a Better World” (2010), “What No One Knows” by Søren Kragh-Jacobsen (2008), and “The Five Obstructions” (2003) by Lars von Trier and Jørgen Leth. Audiences can also look forward to modern horror film “The Candidate” (2008) by Kasper Barfoed, and the animated film “The Apple and the Worm” (2009) by Anders Morgenthaler.

Interested audiences can obtain free tickets starting November 21, 2025, at Cinematheque Hanoi and from November 22, 2025, at IDECAF Ho Chi Minh City. Each person is allowed to receive tickets for a couple of screenings, and attendees are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Danish cinema saw significant growth and international recognition beginning in the 1970s, largely due to financial support from the Danish government aimed at enhancing various aspects of the industry, including production, screenwriting, and acting training. This commitment has resulted in numerous accolades for Danish films on the world stage, including Oscars, the Palme d'Or, and awards from many esteemed international film festivals.
