Craft villages in Hanoi to be transformed into tourist sites
In the latest attempt to attract more international and domestic tourists to the city, Hanoi’s authority has planned to develop six traditional craft villages into tourist attractions.
In a continued effort to enhance tourism both internationally and domestically, Hanoi’s authorities have expanded their initiative to develop six traditional craft villages into popular tourist attractions. This initiative, now in full swing as of 2025, aims to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the region while providing engaging experiences for visitors.
The six villages involved in this revitalization project are: Phu Vinh rattan and bamboo weaving village (Chuong My District), Son Dong fine art sculpture village (Hoai Duc District), Bat Trang pottery village (Gia Lam District), Van Phuc silk village (Ha Dong District), Ngo Ha mother-of-pearl inlay village (Phu Xuyen District), and Du Du sculpture village (Thanh Oai District). Notably, Phu Vinh village has been designated as a model site for this undertaking.
Under this development plan, these traditional craft villages will receive considerable support from Hanoi’s authorities, including funding for the restoration of historical architectures, revitalization of cultural sites, creation of designated areas for the exhibition and sale of local masterpieces, and improvements to the transportation network along with waste and water treatment facilities.
A key feature of this transformation is the introduction of homestay services, a novel offering in tourist areas close to the city center. This initiative presents visitors with unique opportunities to immerse themselves in the daily lives and traditions of local communities.
As part of a broader vision for tourism, Hanoi now aims to establish an additional 14 similar tourist villages, projected to increase the number of international visitors to between 300,000 and 500,000, while attracting 2 to 3 million domestic travelers annually. This ambitious plan reflects the city's commitment to boosting its tourism industry and preserving its cultural heritage well into the future.
