On the occasion of Spain national fiesta, famous ballerina Cristina Hoyos will perform a series of flamenco shows titled “Poemas Flamencos” in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, with the courtesy of the Embassy of Spain. The performance will include two big shows in Hanoi Opera House and Ho Chi Minh Opera House at 8.00pm on the 12th and 14th of October respectively, in addition to one special show at Melia Hanoi Hotel on the 10th of October.

Representative of the embassy has revealed that performances on the show are three popular flamenco plays in Spain including “Viaje al Sur” (A trip to the South), “Romancero Gitano” (Gypsy Ballads) and “Poema del CanteJondo” (Poem of CanteJondo). These performances are choreographed exclusively for Vietnamese audience and presented by five dancers under the exclusive music inspired by poems of well-known Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca.

Cristiana Hoyos is considered one of the biggest names on flamenco in Spain. This Seville woman has had a long career playing various roles including Spanish flamenco dancer, choreographer and also actress, all with numerous successes. In 1988, she started her own flamenco troupe named “Ballet Cristina Hoyos” to further develop her artistic career.

Flamenco is a special combination of music and dance which was originated from Andalucía in Spain from the 18th century. Its trademark is the fast rhythm of guitar and drum, together with the alluring movements of dancers mimicking that of the matadors. In November 2010, UNESCO certificated Flamenco as an ”Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”.
