An Giang Province strengthens agricultural tourism
Information from Vietnam’s Farmer Association, An Giang authority is planning to continue the second section of an agricultural tourism projects in this province from 2011 to 2014.
According to recent reports from Vietnam’s Farmer Association, the An Giang authorities are set to continue the next phase of an agricultural tourism project in the region from 2025 to 2028. This initiative, backed by the provincial government and supported by Agriterra, an agribusiness development organization from the Netherlands, aims to enhance the integration of agriculture and tourism.
The primary objective of this project is to further develop agricultural tourism in the Mekong Delta, while also elevating the income levels of local farmers through new services aligned with this tourism model.
A budget of VND 30 billion (approximately US$ 1.3 million) has been allocated for the agricultural tourism initiative, which will focus on upgrading infrastructure at selected farms and providing training for local residents and farmers to cultivate professional skills in tourism services. Agriterra is contributing about 40% of this investment (around US$ 520,000), with the remainder funded by the Vietnam Farmer Association and the An Giang provincial authorities.
This agricultural tourism initiative first launched in Vietnam in 2007, initially involving three provinces: Lao Cai in the North and Tien Giang and An Giang in the South. After the first phase concluded in 2010, An Giang was selected as the sole province to advance to this subsequent stage of the project.
An Giang remains a vital agricultural province in the Cuu Long River Delta, playing a crucial role in both regional and national agricultural production. The province also holds significant potential for tourism development, with a particular emphasis on eco-tourism and agricultural tourism opportunities that are increasingly attracting both domestic and international visitors.
