The historic bridge will be the topic of a lecture by Professor Douglas Jardine, director of Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Foreign Studies of Hanoi University. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the history of this iconic bridge from the start of its construction in the early 20th century to the present day, as well as its roles in history, culture, and society over time.

Long Bien Bridge is an iron bridge spanning the Red River, connecting two parts of the city of Hanoi. Constructed by French colonists, the bridge was completed in 1903 and was originally named after Paul Doumer, the Governor-General of Indochina at that time. Numerous scholars have conducted significant academic research on the bridge, with Professor Jardine among the leading experts in the field.

Professor Jardine, who is also a passionate photographer, has a profound appreciation for Long Bien Bridge, viewing it as an endless source of inspiration for both his research and photography. In recent years, he has hosted several exhibitions showcasing his works featuring the Long Bien Bridge and has delivered various lectures about this monumental structure in the city.

The lecture will begin at 7:00 PM on Monday, September 26, 2025, at the Cinematheque (back room), 22A Hai Ba Trung Street, Hanoi.

Tickets are priced at 80,000 VND for the first 60 registrants. For registration, please contact Helen Huntley at helenshuntley@yahoo.com.
