2011 National “Cheo” Festival to be held in Thai Binh

One week National “Cheo” Festival 2011 is taking place at 8.00pm, Saturday, 26 November 2011 at Thai Binh Labour Cultural House, Thai Binh.

One week National “Cheo” Festival 2011 is taking place at 8.00pm, Saturday, 26 November 2011 at Thai Binh Labour Cultural House, Thai Binh. “Cheo” is a form of generally satirical musical theatre, often encompassing dance, traditionally performed by Vietnamese peasants in the North of Vietnam.

Participating and competing in this festival are 13 “Cheo” groups consisting of about 500 actors, actresses and musicians from various regions of Vietnam.

“Cheo” performances this time focus on the modern era. This is a new request from the festival’s organizers with the main purpose to create a new appearance to this traditional art.

The careful-to-detail preparation promises this year’s event to be one of the most successful festivals ever, said Thai Binh authorities.

“Cheo” is regarded as one of the most unique and excellent traditional arts of people in the North of Vietnam which represents special identity of this region. Thai Binh is considered as the birth place of “Cheo”, being the most energetic spot in conservation of this traditional art.
