2011 National “Cheo” Festival to be held in Thai Binh

One week National “Cheo” Festival 2011 is taking place at 8.00pm, Saturday, 26 November 2011 at Thai Binh Labour Cultural House, Thai Binh.

The one-week National “Cheo” Festival 2025 is set to begin at 8:00 PM on Saturday, November 23, 2025, at the Thai Binh Labour Cultural House in Thai Binh province, Vietnam. “Cheo” is a unique form of satirical musical theatre that often includes dance and is traditionally performed by Vietnamese peasants from the northern regions of Vietnam.

This year, the festival will feature 13 “Cheo” groups, comprising approximately 500 actors, actresses, and musicians from various regions across Vietnam.

The performances will focus on themes relevant to the modern era, reflecting a new direction requested by the festival organizers aimed at refreshing the traditional art form and attracting a wider audience.

Authorities in Thai Binh express optimism that the meticulous preparation for this year’s festival will make it one of the most successful events to date.

“Cheo” is recognized as one of the most unique traditional art forms representing the cultural identity of northern Vietnam. Thai Binh is often regarded as the birthplace of “Cheo,” serving as a vibrant hub for the preservation and promotion of this traditional art.
