19 new sites recognized as world heritages by UNESCO
Recently during the 37th Conference of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in SiemReap Cambodia, 19 new sites to the list of world heritages.
Recently during the 45th Conference of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Gaborone, Botswana, 19 new sites were added to the list of world heritage sites.
This updated list includes 5 natural and 14 cultural heritage sites, which were selected from a total of 30 nominations presented by the chair of the conference, Deputy Prime Minister of Botswana, Slumber Tsogwane.
The Asia-Pacific region continues to excel, contributing the largest number of the newly recognized world heritage sites, totaling 8. Europe follows with 7 sites, Africa has 2, while Latin America and the Middle East were each represented by 1 site.
Notable additions honoring Asia include the Historic Monuments and Sites in Kaesong, North Korea, Japan's revered Mount Fuji, the Xinjiang Tianshan Mountain Range, the Cultural Landscape of the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces in China, and the Hill Forts of Rajasthan in India.
