Thai Nguyen has been famous in Vietnam for its high quality tea for years. One of the main exports in the 1990s, Thai Nguyen tea helped Vietnam both in gaining GDP growth and raising reputation in the world commodity market. From 2004 with the exported amount of 100,000 tons (mainly from Thai Nguyen), Vietnam has written its name to the top 5 tea exporting countries in the world (after Kenya, Sri Lanka, China and India).
With the crystal green colour, sweet taste and unique smell, Thai Nguyen tea scores very high in the international market. In November 2011, Thai Nguyen for the first time has the honour to hold International Tea Festival. This Festival is a chance for Vietnam to know about teas from many other countries, to exchange experience about growing, harvesting and packaging tea, and to advertise Vietnam tea, especially Thai Nguyen tea to tourists and guests from all over the world.
Thai Nguyen Tea Festival will be held from 11th to 15th November in Thai Nguyen city and Nui Coc Lake area. Main activities of this festival include an International Conference about Tea, an Exhibition: Vietnam – country and people, a Beauty contest in tea hill, and a cultural festival about tea. Along with these main contents, many other interesting events are also organised in order to support for the Festival: boat racing, chinese chess, traditional market, folk musical shows and materials arts performances.
Ten countries, 30 provinces of Vietnam, 50 traditional villages and 25 enterprises in tea industry will join this Festival, and the number of visitors are hoping to boom up more than 400,000 people. Overall, a cannot-miss event for tea lover.
