Hoa My Village Festival
Today, Hoa My is a vibrant neighborhood within Hoa Minh, Da Nang. The traditions of the old village continue to be honored, with the Hoa My Village Festival standing out as a significant event. This annual festival is celebrated on the 12th day of the first lunar month, fostering gratitude among younger generations toward their ancestors while establishing goals for the year ahead. After a long interruption due to the Vietnam War, the festival resumed in 1994 and has since flourished.
The Hoa My Village Festival spans a day and a half, consisting of traditional rituals divided into two main segments: Le Vong (looking back) and Le Hoi Hy (getting together). The festival features a blend of traditional and modern activities, highlighting its unique character compared to other local events. Young participants engage in various competitions, while the elders showcase traditional dances and sing melodious folk songs.Photo: Internet
Moreover, traditional games remain a central attraction, adding excitement and joy to the festive atmosphere. Community members come together to interact and share experiences and ideas about a culturally enriching life. Performances of Tuong and Cheo, traditional Vietnamese theatrical music, bring further entertainment to attendees, enhancing the overall festive spirit.
It is astonishing to see such a traditional festival still being celebrated in a modern neighborhood at the heart of Da Nang City. Even more remarkable is the growing interest from both older generations and today’s youth. The festival has undeniably become an extraordinary highlight in the cultural tapestry of this dynamic city, symbolizing the blend of heritage and contemporary life.
