Ta Phin Village
Ta Phin has gone from being a stranger name to one of the most visited destinations in Sapa. Located about 17km in the west of Sapa, Ta Phin is a village of Red Dao’s people possessing a rich culture that has not been damaged by the modern life.
Overview
Ta Phin is home to the Red Dao ethnic group and is located just 30 minutes from Sapa by motorbike. The winding mountain roads can be challenging for cars, making motorbike taxis, known locally as "xe om," the most efficient way to travel. Hiring an experienced driver not only ensures a safe journey but also provides valuable insights and tips about the area at a reasonable price.
What to see
Upon arriving in Ta Phin, visitors are greeted by groups of Red Dao women skillfully working with vibrant reels of thread and fabric. They craft intricate textiles while engaging with customers, showcasing remarkable proficiency in both Vietnamese and English. Since being designated as a “brocade village” in 1998, Ta Phin has become renowned for its handmade brocades created by local artisans. Shoppers can find a wide variety of colorful items, including bags, scarves, purses, skirts, backpacks, and coats. Ta Phin serves as a key supplier of these textiles not just for shops in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, but also for international markets.
Despite the passage of time, Ta Phin Village has managed to preserve its unique cultural traditions. If fortunate, visitors may have the chance to witness a Red Dao wedding, with its elaborate preparations and intricate customs. Various local festivals, such as the "Dancing Festival," "New House Greeting," and "Oath-Taking Ceremony," provide an immersive experience, allowing travelers to appreciate the joyful and harmonious life of the ethnic community.
