Egg coffee

Egg coffee may be the most essential feature of Hanoi’s coffee culture. A mug of egg coffee is like a tiny wonder inside your palm, with the egg yolks and whites make the coffee fluffy like bubbles in the bubble bath. The brown bitter coffee is carefully hidden under this creamy froth, combining with the sweet flavor of egg, creating the taste of tiramisu for the dish. Egg coffee is best consumed when it is hot, as it will melt in your mouth and warm up your whole body.

Following are some places you can try Hanoi Egg Coffee:

Café Giảng

Café Giang is one of four most famous coffee shops of old Hanoi: Nhan- Nhi- Di- Giang. The shop is distinctively simple with antique atmosphere, small space with some tiny wooden tables and chairs. Mr. Giang, a former bartender at a French restaurant, opened this first coffee shop in the French-colonized Hanoi. It was him that created the legendary Hanoi egg coffee recipe, which has been passed down for two generations. His original shop was in Cau Go Street, but now it has moved to Nguyen Huu Huan Street. The taste of egg coffee is well-kept for many years, bringing the strange feelings to the consumers, somehow nostalgic for the air of Old Quarter Streets. Nowadays, with the high inflation rate extremely affects the price level in Hanoi, coffee and beverages in Café Giang are still offered at a very reasonable price.
