First International Tourists Come To Phu Quoc Island Under Vaccine Passport Program

On Saturday, Phu Quoc Island welcomed its first international flight after a prolonged closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The flight carried 204 South Korean visitors from Seoul to Phu Quoc International Airport.

Upon arrival, tourists undergo health screenings including two Covid-19 tests—one upon arrival and another before departing the island. After completing all mandatory health checks, visitors will stay at the Phu Quoc United Center, which features resorts, theme parks, zoos, and various entertainment and sports venues.

One tourist expressed excitement about their visit to Phu Quoc under the pilot vaccine passport program, saying, “I am thrilled to see everything; from the stunning scenery to the warm welcome, it has all been fantastic.”

Nguyen Luu Trung, the deputy chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province, forecasts that the destination will welcome up to 400,000 foreign tourists by the end of 2025. Additionally, the head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, emphasized that such visits are crucial for the resurgence of tourism in Vietnam.

Prior to Phu Quoc, Da Nang was the first city in Vietnam to receive international tourists during the pandemic. Other provinces participating in the trial vaccine passport program include Quang Nam, Khanh Hoa, and Quang Ninh, as they open their doors to foreign visitors once again.
