Soc Trang Geography

Soc Trang City was officially upgraded from a town to the capital of Sóc Trăng Province in 2007. As of 2025, the city is approximately 240 km south of Ho Chi Minh City and 60 km southeast of Can Tho City. Soc Trang City is divided into 10 administrative divisions, numbered 1 to 10. The city borders Long Phú District to the east and north, Mỹ Tú District to the northwest, Châu Thành District to the west, and Mỹ Xuyên District to the south. The name “Soc Trang” originates from the Khmer language “Srok Kh'leang,” which translates to “a place where silver is stored.” Today, Soc Trang is known for its rich cultural heritage and boasts a variety of tourist attractions that reflect the unique blend of cultures in the region.
