Why Vietnam Tet Holiday changes its date from year to year? What will the date be for 2012? Is it ok to travel to Vietnam during that holiday?
Hi,
Thank you for your questions. The Vietnamese Tet holiday, also known as Lunar New Year, is calculated based on the Lunar Calendar, which differs from the Solar Calendar. Occasionally, the Lunar Calendar includes a 13th month (a leap year), resulting in varying dates for Tet. Generally, Tet occurs between late January and early February.
As for your second question, the Tet Holiday in 2025 will be celebrated on February 10th, 2025 (Solar Calendar). Most offices and businesses will be closed for a few days before and after this date, so it's wise to plan ahead (for example, please apply for your visa well in advance). A significant number of overseas Vietnamese will return home, and many city-dwellers will head back to their rural roots, leading to increased traffic volume. We recommend that you plan your travel carefully and book all necessary flight tickets and tours in advance to avoid delays.
Experiencing Tet is a wonderful opportunity to engage with the most significant holiday and event in the Vietnamese calendar. If you're fortunate, you may receive an invitation from a Vietnamese family to celebrate Tet with them—an experience that will undoubtedly enhance your perspective on traveling to Vietnam.
