Located 100km from Hanoi, traveling to Hai Phong is more convenient than ever, thanks to a well-established transportation network that includes sea routes, railways, and airlines. Visitors have a variety of options to choose from, allowing them to enjoy their journey in different ways.

By Plane

Traveling by plane remains a comfortable option, with three main airlines – Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, and Bamboo Airways – operating direct domestic flights to Cat Bi International Airport from major cities. As of 2025, Cat Bi International Airport continues to serve as the primary airport for Hai Phong, located south of the city. Numerous taxis and public transportation options are available for easy access to the city center.

By Road

Frequent buses run from Gia Lam Station on the outskirts of Hanoi to either Niem Nghia (3km from the city center) or Cau Rao Station (6km from the city center) in Hai Phong, making this an economical choice for tourists with fares starting at approximately 80,000 VND, which is roughly $3.50 USD. For more direct travel, consider a taxi or private car along the CT04 highway, which connects Hanoi and Hai Phong. This option costs about $90 USD one way and typically takes around 1.5 hours to reach the destination.

By Train

For a more immersive experience of the stunning Vietnamese countryside, travelers can choose to travel by train. Services operate from the north and south, with trains departing from either Long Bien Station or Hanoi Station. Ticket prices range from approximately 60,000 VND to 120,000 VND (around $2.50 to $5.50 USD). However, this option is generally more time-consuming compared to others.

By Ferry
