Shrimp Crackers Sa Giang

When discussing the specialties of the south-western region of Vietnam, it would be remiss not to mention the iconic Shrimp Crackers from Sa Giang. Each year, the picturesque Tien River supplies this district with a plentiful harvest of shrimps, enabling the local artisans to craft one of the most delectable types of crackers available.

The Shrimp Crackers from Sa Giang can be produced using various types of shrimp, but it is the expertise of the Sa Giang locals that transforms these ingredients into a delightful delicacy and a renowned specialty of Dong Thap. The primary components include flour, ground shrimp, and ground black pepper. After mixing the ingredients, they are stuffed into small, elongated cloth bags, which are then placed in steamers. Once cooked, the mixture is sliced into small pieces and left to dry. The final stage involves frying these pieces in hot oil until they achieve the desired crunchiness and flavor. Each finished cracker is typically rounded, with a pale, moon-like yellow hue.

Every bite of these crackers carries the rich, buttery essence of ground shrimp. When consumed, the experience is one of melt-in-your-mouth delight, with a lingering buttery and mildly spicy taste that tantalizes the taste buds.
