Hu Tieu

A district in Dong Thap, Sa Dec, continues to be renowned for its unique cuisine that reflects the rich culture and traditions of this southern province. In Sa Dec, food enthusiasts can indulge in a variety of traditional dishes such as Beef Hotpot, Spring Rolls, and notably, Hu Tieu Noodle. Hu Tieu is a noodle dish featuring seasoned and sautéed beef. While it may not be as widely recognized as Hu Tieu Nam Vang or Hu Tieu My Tho, Sa Dec's version of Hu Tieu holds a special place in the hearts of many gourmets.

The most essential component of Hu Tieu is the noodles, which should be milky white, soft, sticky, and aromatic. The broth is typically made from pig bones, and preparing it can be quite intricate, as the chef must maintain a consistent medium temperature while skimming off bubbles from the boiling pot.

Additional key ingredients include boiled meats such as ground lean pork, sliced lean pork, and meatballs. For presentation, chefs often incorporate Vietnamese onion, cabbage, and coriander into the bowl. Diners can also customize their Hu Tieu with an assortment of fresh herbs, vegetables, sauces, and chilies to suit their preferences.

As of 2025, Hu Tieu has become a popular and affordable dish in Sa Dec. You can find this meal readily available throughout the district, but the most engaging dining options are typically located along Tran Phu Street. One restaurant that you shouldn't miss is "Hu Tieu of Sister Dau" on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, a destination cherished by both locals and visitors alike.
