Architecture

The castle served as the residence of Hoang Yen Chao and later his son Hoang A Tuong. This two-story structure not only provided living quarters but also functioned as a fortress. Its strategic position allowed its inhabitants to exert influence and control over the entire Bac Ha valley. From a distance, the castle stands out strikingly against the backdrop of the blue sky and the lush green fields of Lao Cai province.

Originally fortified with high fences, blockhouses, deep trenches, and robust defensive towers, the castle was designed to protect against past threats. While many of these features have eroded with time, visitors can still observe the hazardous spiked barriers surrounding the castle (note: these are genuine!). After exploring the exterior, make sure to venture inside to appreciate the remnants that have withstood the passage of time, offering a glimpse into the castle’s storied past.
