What to do in Con Dao

Explore the profound history at Con Dao Prisons:

Experience the stunning natural beauty of Con Dao National Park:

Con Dao National Park is a must-see for nature lovers, showcasing lush, evergreen forests that surround the islands. It is the only national park in Vietnam that encompasses both terrestrial and marine biodiversity, housing a wealth of plant and animal species, some of which are endangered. Visitors can hike the jungle trails to enjoy breathtaking ocean views and encounter an array of wildlife, including native flora and various species of monkeys. However, remember that feeding wild animals can be harmful, even if done with good intentions.

Relax on the pristine beaches:

The Con Dao Islands may be small, but they boast numerous beaches with soft, white sand and crystal-clear waters, making for a delightful swimming experience. Not only can visitors enjoy the beaches on the main island of Con Son, but smaller, unspoiled islands like Bai Nhat, Dam Trau, and Bai Dat Doc also offer serene, breathtaking views perfect for sunrises and sunsets. For a luxurious getaway, consider staying on Con Son island where there are various upscale hotels and resorts. Alternatively, if you prefer a more rustic atmosphere, take a boat trip to the other islands and savor the untouched beauty of nature.

How to get there

Travelers have two main options for reaching Con Dao: by airplane or by speedboat.

If you choose to fly, direct flights from Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) in Ho Chi Minh City take roughly one hour, while flights from Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) in Hanoi take about two hours, landing at Con Dao Airport (VCS).

The second alternative is a more budget-friendly option, with daily speedboat services operating from Can Tho, Vung Tau, and Soc Trang, taking approximately 2 to 4.5 hours to reach Ben Dam port. This option allows you to enjoy scenic views of the ocean along the way.

Best time to visit

Con Dao Islands experience a tropical monsoon climate, with two distinct seasons: the dry season from November to April and the rainy season from May to October.

You can visit Con Dao at any time of year, although it's advised to avoid the stormy months of September and October. For those interested in diving and snorkeling, the best time to visit is between February and July when the waters are calm and visibility is excellent. During the later part of the dry season, you may also have the opportunity to witness turtle nesting, enhancing your experience of the area's rich biodiversity.
