Quan Thanh King Rite

This traditional rite is held annually on the 26th of June (lunar calendar) at the Quan Thanh King Temple in Can Tho by the local Chinese community. The primary purpose of this ceremony is to honor Guan Yu, a legendary hero in Chinese mythology, and to seek his blessings for good fortune and success in the coming year. The ceremony typically begins at 9:00 AM. During the main rite, the leader reads the ritual oration in Chinese, invoking the Gods and articulating the community's wishes. Following this, a worship plate is placed at the center of the temple, and participants perform a kowtow to the statues of Guan Yu and other deities on the altar. After the rites, attendees engage in various tasks such as cleaning the premises, preparing food, or making drinks, all in anticipation of welcoming guests who visit the temple to pray to the Quan Thanh King. Visitors are often local Chinese and Vietnamese residents or people from surrounding areas within Can Tho. This rite not only exemplifies the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese community in Can Tho but also fortifies the bonds among the Chinese population in Southern Vietnam.
