July Full Moon Holiday of the Tay Ethnic Group in Bac Kan
The July Full Moon Holiday, also referred to as the Slip Sli Holiday, coincides with the Vu Lan Festival of the Kinh ethnic group. For the Tay people, this holiday serves as a meaningful opportunity for honoring and worshiping their ancestors.
Ba Be Spring Festival
The Ba Be Spring Festival takes place in Nam Mau, Ba Be, on the 10th day of the Lunar New Year. This vibrant celebration marks the beginning of the year and showcases the rich cultural customs and traditions of the local inhabitants.

Preparations for the festival begin well in advance of the 10th day, with locals crafting a variety of cakes such as Forest Cake, Sky Cake, Khao Cake, and Nep Cake, made from an assortment of flours and wild leaves. A unique wine called Khua Quang, which is exclusive to Bac Kan, is also widely enjoyed during this festival. This potent beverage is made from the freshest corn grown in the mountainous areas, and its rich flavor provides an exhilarating experience that stays with you long after just one sip. Each town in the district showcases their specialties under tents set up for the festival.

On the morning of the Spring Festival, gifts from each town are presented to the God of Mountain, God of River, and God of Lake in hopes of securing a peaceful year filled with bountiful harvests. Following the ceremonial drumbeats, performances celebrating the new Lunar year captivate visitors from outside Bac Kan.
Additionally, locals engage in a variety of traditional games such as boat racing, martial arts tournaments, dancing, and archery, providing entertainment that attracts many spectators. Among these events, the boat racing on Ba Be Lake is particularly thrilling. Visitors to Bac Kan during this festive period also have the chance to join in with local ethnic groups as they sing traditional songs, creating an atmosphere rich in culture and community spirit.
