Medical University of Ho Chi Minh City is one of the two most reputable medical universities in Vietnam, alongside Hanoi Medical University. Originally established in 1947 as Saigon Medical University—then a campus of Hanoi Medical University under French colonial administration—it has grown into a standalone national institution.

At present, the university’s primary role is to provide trained healthcare professionals to hospitals and medical centers not only in southern Vietnam but also across the country and in neighboring nations such as Laos and Cambodia. Moreover, the Medical University of Ho Chi Minh City today serves as a research hub, conducting numerous medical projects for practical application and supporting national health strategies. The university also operates its own hospital facilities in addition to its historical clinic services.

The university currently offers courses across seven faculties: Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry and Oral Health Care, Public Health, Traditional Medicine, Nursing, and Basic Sciences. Its academic staff includes highly experienced professionals—professors, doctors, and masters—specializing in various fields of medicine and healthcare.
