A Majestic Colonial Beauty

Originally named Hôtel de Ville during the French colonial period, it later transitioned to serve as the city hall under the South Vietnamese government. Following the reunification of Vietnam in 1975, the building has been known as the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Building. It is prominently located at the intersection of Nguyen Hue Boulevard and Le Thanh Ton Street, making it easily accessible from any area in the city center. This Renaissance-style city hall closely resembles its counterpart in Paris.
The facade showcases a blend of various decorative styles, with the most notable feature being the Marianne relief at the center, reflecting the architectural influences of the French Third Republic. The interior boasts magnificent furnishings and harmonious frescoes that adorn much of the ceiling.
Unfortunately, the building remains closed to the public, limiting many visitors' opportunities to experience its exquisite ambiance firsthand.
Nevertheless, walking around the exterior of the building provides a captivating glimpse into Vietnam’s colonial past. It is important to note that the area is a protected zone, so visitors are advised to conduct themselves respectfully and avoid any suspicious behavior to prevent potential issues.
How To Get There
