Ha Giang Observation Deck
Unlike what many may think, the northernmost point of Vietnam is not the Lung Cu flagpole, but a remote observation deck located approximately 30 minutes away by motorbike from the flagpole.

Only locals who know the area well will reveal such hidden gems to you. This spot is a treasure for explorers, not only due to its rarity on social media, but also because of its breathtaking scenery. The clearer the day, the more vibrant the sunset becomes, transforming the sky into a canvas of red and orange hues, and the mountains appear to extend endlessly, creating a truly magnificent view. No Hollywood film could ever capture the drama of this extraordinary sight. However, reaching this paradise requires some planning. To arrive in time for sunset, tourists should leave the flagpole no later than 5:30 PM.
The sunset itself lasts for about 15 minutes. It takes only 30 minutes for it to become completely dark, so tourists should leave the deck immediately after the sun dips below the horizon; otherwise, the encroaching darkness may unsettle less-experienced riders. Here are three important considerations if you decide to visit this destination. First, ride slowly and cautiously, as small rocks and stones can be found along the route. Also, ensure that your scooter’s headlights and horn are functioning properly.

Secondly, regardless of how tempting the landscape may be along the way, don't stop for pictures until you reach the observation deck. You are effectively racing against time to enjoy the sunset for those fleeting 15 minutes—no photograph can truly capture the live experience. Thirdly, when you are at the observation deck, bring the best quality camera you have, along with a drone if possible, as the delicate reddish light during sunset may not be well-represented on most smartphones. Although visiting this beautiful hidden spot is certainly worthwhile, the ride can be challenging, so it is most comfortable to travel in a group or with a knowledgeable tour guide. Ha Giang embodies the dual nature of scenery—both poetic and dramatic, inviting yet demanding at the same time.
Gather your friends and embark on a journey for some of the most unforgettable experiences of your life!
