Ha Giang Observation Deck

Unlike most people think, the northernmost point of Vietnam is not Lung Cu flag pole but a remote observation deck, which is approximately 30 minutes riding from the flagpole.

Only a local who truly knows the ropes would happen to reveal such a secret hideout to you. This place is the holy grail of explorers not only because of how rare it is on social media, but also for how breathtaking it is. The hotter the day is, the redder the sky turns, the deeper the mountains seem to sink, the more magnificent the view gets. No Hollywood scene would ever be as dramatic as the rare beauty unfolding in front of you. However, tourists must take some risks to catch a glimpse of that heaven. In order to arrive just in time for sunset observation, they must set out from the flagpole no later than 05:30 PM.

The sunset lasts for 15 minutes. Afterwards it takes only 30 minutes to turn pitch dark and hence tourists should leave the deck right away once the sun has disappeared below the horizon, otherwise the darkness might scare off amateur riders. There are 3 things to keep in mind if you choose this destination. Firstly, ride slowly and carefully as there could be small rocks and stones here and there on the way. Also make sure your scooter's front lights and horns work fine.

Secondly, no matter how enticing it looks along the way, do not waste a minute to stop and take pictures until you have reached the observation deck, because you are literally chasing the sun for just 15 minutes watching the sunset there and what your pictures cannot do justice to what your bare eyes see anyway. Thirdly, for photo shooting at the observation deck, bring the highest quality camera and flycam you have as the fragile reddish light at sunset won't be able to show up on most smartphones. Although an experience in this lovely remote hideaway is worth the effort, the riding does take some nerve and skills to deal with so it is most comfortable to go in a team or with a tour guide. Ha Giang is an evidence that nature can be both poetic and dramatic, enticing and challenging at the same time.

Pull together a team and hit the road for the most unforgettable moments of your life!
