Often referred to as the 'Halong Bay on land,' Ninh Binh experiences four distinct seasons. The months from May to October are characterized by hot, humid weather accompanied by substantial rainfall, with August recording the highest precipitation levels. The region tends to be susceptible to typhoons and severe storms during September. In contrast, the period from November to April is cooler and drier, providing a pleasant escape from the summer heat.

The best time to visit Ninh Binh is year-round, though it is advisable to avoid the rainy season in August and September. February to March marks the peak season for festivals and pilgrimages, as visitors flock to the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex and local pagodas following the Tet holiday (Vietnamese Lunar New Year). During this period, a variety of traditional cultural and ceremonial activities take place, attracting people from across Vietnam and international visitors who come to pray for good fortune and admire the beautiful landscapes. This season is also ideal for short trips to Thung Nham, Vang Long, and Cuc Phuong National Park to indulge in the tranquil and refreshing atmosphere.

From early May to June is considered an excellent time to explore Hoa Lu, the first capital of Vietnam, and Tam Coc, where visitors can witness the striking beauty of historical monuments. This period coincides with the rice harvest, offering breathtaking views of lush rice paddies. Additionally, June is abundant with blooming flowers, particularly lotus and water lilies, which enhance the already picturesque natural scenery.
