Hon Ba Isle

Hon Ba is a charming island off the coast of Vung Tau, Vietnam. At low tide on the 14th and 15th lunar days, a causeway formed by exposed rocks and coral provides a unique opportunity for tourists to walk to the island. This unusual experience allows visitors to connect with nature as they stroll across the shallow waters. On other days, visitors can easily hire a boat to reach the island.

At the top of Hon Ba stands the Mieu Ba temple, also known as the Mistress Temple, which was constructed in 1881. The temple features a 6 km long tunnel that served as a secret meeting place for communists during historical conflicts. Today, this site is celebrated for its religious rituals, particularly in the lunar months of January, April, July, and October. These events draw many visitors who come to make votive offerings and pray for luck, health, and prosperity.

Tourists opting to walk during low tide should wear sturdy shoes or sandals, as the causeway can be slippery. It is advisable to ask local residents for the precise timing of low tide since accurate timing is essential for a successful visit.
