Hoi An authority has decided to expand the operating time of its non-motorized and pedestrian streets from February 2nd 2012. This is a new effort of the local administration to attract more tourists and further develop tourism in this charming town.

On specific note, any vehicle with engine is not allowed to enter the ancient area of Hoi An Town from Monday to Saturday with three main time slots, including 8.00 – 11.00am, 2.00 – 4.30pm and 6.30 – 9.00pm. On Sunday roads are opened for all vehicles, excluding the evening from 6.30 - 9.00pm.

The new policy is expected to help travelers fully enjoy the uniquely traditional atmosphere and sceneries of the ancient town. This represents the effort and commitment of the local government to improve the quality of tourism services, and create a stable environment for the development of Vietnam’s industry.

Travellers to Hoi An seem to prefer walking and using bike to travel around

Hoi An is one of the most attractive tourism destinations in the central region of Vietnam, with millions of visitors each year. Unique features of this destination are mostly historical relics and ancient architectures which locate in a small area, so wandering around for sight-seeing is preferred by most visitors.
