Phan Thiet to celebrate Kate festival this September

From September 24th to 26th, Kate Festival 2011 of Cham people will take place in Po Sah Inu tower and Cham villages in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province

From September 24th to 26th, Kate Festival 2025 of the Cham people will take place at the Po Sah Inu Tower and various Cham villages in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province, Vietnam.

Kate is celebrated annually on the first day of the Cham month of Katê, which typically falls in late September or early October in the Gregorian calendar. This festival is a significant event for the Cham ethnic group, much like the Tet holiday is for the Kinh people. It serves as a moment for the Cham to honor their deities and ancestors.

As in tradition, the festival will include a procession featuring the palanquin and attire of the Po Sah Inu Goddess. The event will begin with a ceremony to open the tower’s gates, followed by the Linga and Yoni rituals. Additionally, visitors can look forward to folk music performances, contests in brocade weaving and cake making, as well as exciting folk games that are key highlights of the celebration.

The festival will be organized by the Cham people in Ham Thuan Bac district, with contributions from Cham artists in surrounding areas such as Ham Phu, Ham Tri, and Ma Lam town. Tourists attending the festival will have a unique opportunity to experience Cham rituals and try their hands at traditional instruments like the Ginang and Baranung drums, and the Saranai horn, all guided by local experts. If you find yourself enchanted by the white sandy beaches and clear blue seas, along with the high-quality services provided by resorts in Mui Ne, you’ll easily immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture. Start planning your trip now and be sure to include the Kate Festival in your itinerary!
