Information from L’Espace Hanoi announces that a concert of Ca Tru will be held at the center hall of this institution (24 Trang Tien Street) on June 13th, 2025, starting at 8:00 PM. This collaborative event between L’Espace and San Khau Viet Company is open to the public free of charge.
Renowned Ca Tru artist Pho Thi Kim Duc, along with her students, will showcase their efforts in preserving and reviving this traditional singing genre. The concert will feature songs composed and performed by Kim Duc and her ensemble.
Additionally, Ca Tru experts, including Professor Tran Bang, former Director of the Vietnam "Cheo" Theater, and Professor Nguyen Thuy Loan, are scheduled to deliver talks regarding the significance and history of “Ca Tru.”
Pho Thi Kim Duc is a prominent figure in traditional Vietnamese music. Having begun her studies in Ca Tru at the age of 7, she has dedicated her life to the research, preservation, and promotion of this art form, instilling her passion in many generations of artists.
Ca Tru is a genre of traditional music originating from Northern Vietnam, which gained popularity in the 15th century. Initially favored by the elite, including nobles and scholars, it later evolved into a royal music form. In 2009, UNESCO recognized Ca Tru as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in need of Urgent Safeguarding, highlighting its cultural significance.
