Vietnam Adoption Requirements

Since 2008, American parents can no longer adopt Vietnamese children as the program has been suspended from the Vietnam side.

Article 14 of Vietnam Adoption Law details what adopting a Vietnamese children requires. The adoptive parents need to:

- Have full civil rights
- Be more than 20 years older than the child
- Have a good health, financial status and residency to ensure the caring, rearing and educating of the adopted child.  
- Meet moral standards Besides these terms, foreigners; Vietnamese residing abroad; or foreigners residing in Vietnam must meet the requirements where the family will be based.
