Hanoi Medical University (HMU) is the oldest remaining university in Hanoi with over 120 years of history and also the best university in medicine in the North of Vietnam. The former base of this university was Indochina Medical University (Ecole de Médecine de l’Indochine) established by the French in 1902 and operated by famous doctor Alexandre Yersin. In the past, HMU was located on Le Thanh Tong Street, but then moved to Ton That Tung Street, the road named after one of the most talented doctors in the history of Vietnam’s medicine.
The university's main mission is to train and provide skillful doctors and medical professionals in numerous areas from traditional medicine to nursing, as well as research and implement new technology in medicine for domestic hospitals. Besides, HMU also acts as a medical services provider with the creation of its own hospital in 2007.
