National Economics University (NEU) is one of the first universities opened by North Vietnam government on recovering period after the victory against French colonial. The schools was firstly named University of Economy and Finance, but then renamed to Planning Economics University. The name National Economics University has been officially used since 1985 and kept until today.

This school is regarded as top university in economics in the North of Vietnam with the main purpose to not only train economic knowledge to students but also consult in macroeconomic policies of the government and research on economic managements, especially on international economic subjects. At present, there are about 45,000 students studying in NEU, in addition to 1228 lecturers and staff including 113 professors and vice-professors, 255 doctors and 391 Masters.
