Can Tho University is listed as one of the key universities in southern Vietnam and consistently ranked among the top universities in the country. The university traces its origins to the University of Can Tho, established by the South Vietnamese government in 1966. Initially offering only a limited number of courses, it has since expanded rapidly to become one of the largest and most multidisciplinary universities in the Mekong Delta, offering 121 undergraduate programs, 58 master’s programs, and 22 doctoral programs.

At present, Can Tho University serves more than 45,000 full-time students—approximately 42,000 undergraduates and 3,000 postgraduates. The university also enrolls additional part-time and continuing education students. Academic staff number around 2,000, including approximately 1,200 lecturers (233 with PhDs and 653 with master’s degrees), ensuring high-quality teaching and research. Many faculty members are actively engaged in international collaborations and research projects.
