Bank Notes and Change
Overview
As of 2025, Vietnam's currency consists of two types of banknotes: cotton and polymer, featuring a range of values and designs. The lowest denomination currently in circulation is VND 1,000 (approximately 4.5 cents), while the highest denomination is VND 500,000 (about US$21). Vietnamese banknotes display distinct national symbols on both sides.
The front of all banknotes features the image of President Ho Chi Minh, commemorating the legacy of this prominent national figure, along with the title "The Socialist Republic of Vietnam," the series number, and the denomination in both numerical and textual format. The reverse side typically showcases the denomination against a backdrop of a significant Vietnamese symbol or image.
