The Phu Bai International Airport (Thua Thien Hue Province) is set to undergo extensive runway maintenance starting in March 2026, as announced by the Airport Corporation of Vietnam.
The expected duration for this maintenance work is estimated to be between six to eight months. Air travelers wishing to visit Hue City during this period will need to utilize Da Nang International Airport, located approximately 90 kilometers away.
The Thua Thien Hue People's Committee, in collaboration with the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Transportation, is formulating a comprehensive plan to facilitate efficient transportation for tourists traveling from Da Nang International Airport to Hue City.
In 2011, Phu Bai Airport experienced an unexpected closure that led to significant disruptions, costing local tourism companies an estimated VND 25 billion due to the need for transportation of passengers between Da Nang and Thua Thien Hue.
Hue remains a major tourist destination, featuring over 100 historic relics that showcase the lives of emperors and mandarins during the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945). Recognized as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site since 1993, Hue's rich history continues to attract both domestic and international visitors.
