Vietnam is one of Asia's most fantastic tour, travel and resort destinations. You could spend months here just seeing the basics. Start in Hanoi, for example, and tour the old quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake, Temple of Literature, Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, and Ho Chi Minh's house on stilts. Hanoi has fantastic shopping and restaurants. Day trips from Hanoi include the Perfume Pagoda, birthplace of a goddess, Tam Coc, Hua Lu, and the many crafts villages and ancient pagodas in communities that surround Hanoi. Perhaps the most important side
tour from Hanoi is Halong Bay, a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage site. Sail the bay for two days or more to see incomparable scenery. Another long side trip from Hanoi is the town of Sapa, situated in the far north of Vietnam practically on the Chinese border. This is a good place for
trekking and exploring the man ethnic minority villages in the area. It's cold in the winter because of the high elevation! Central Vietnam has a lot to offer as well. Hue, the ancient capital, and home to many ov Vietnam's emperors, still has plenty of ancient palaces and pagodas, plus Vietnam's version of the "Forbidden City." Drive south from Hanoi through Danang via the spectacular Hai van Pass to the ancient town of Hoi An. Many of the town's streets are closed to cars, but you can rent a bicycle or motorbike to visit one of Vietnam's best beaches, about 2km away. Take a walking tour through the old town. Another popular beach town, Nha Trang, is south of Hoi An. Ho chi Minh City, also known as Saigon, is the financial capitol of Vietnam. fun-loving Saigon has sophisticated shopping and great nightlife. You will find plenty to see as you tour the city, from lovely old French colonial architecture, to the presidential palace that was home to the notorious Diem regime before Saigon fell to Ho Chi Min's army. Explore markets and pagodas, enjoy the local water park, or take a trip to Vung Tau Beach, which is best on weekends. From Saigon you can take side trips to Dalat, the French Hill Station, which is known as Vietnam's honeymoon capitol, or Phan Thiet, which has specacular beaches and is blessed with a superb year-round climate. Facilities, hotels, golf courses, tour buses, tour guides, resorts, cruises ships in Vietnam are all world class.
