Water Puppet performed in France starting this January

People in France who love to explore the charm of Vietnamese culture, especially performing arts, will be delighted to know that Vietnam’s unique water puppet will be going on tours in the country this January. This is among activities of culture exchange between France’s Bordeaux National Opera and Vietnam’s Water Puppet Theater.

The tour includes 40 shows in 10 cities in France on duration of about 2 months from 15th January to 21 March 2012. These shows are performed by 9 Vietnamese water puppeteers directed by Dominique Pitoiset, Director if Bordeaux National Opera.

Presented at these shows are well-known dramas of traditional water puppet based on folk stories of Vietnamese culture.

Water puppet is considered one of the most creative and unique Vietnamese performing arts which was created a thousand year ago. Water puppets in history were mostly performed at special occasions such as festivals or Tet Holiday, but now it is presented any time in not only Vietnam, but also other countries in the world as an intangible heritage of world human being.
