Vietnamese chef to compete in the Culinary Olympics

Do Chi Cong, Hanoi Metropole hotel’s chef, will represent Vietnam at the prestigious international culinary competition, the Bocuse d’Or Asia, which will take place in Shanghai, China, from June 12 - 14.

Do Chi Cong overcame thousands of talented competitors to win the first prize at the national Bocuse d’Or competition held in Khanh Hoa province last year. Accompanying him throughout the Asian competition is Metropole’s head chef Andre Bosia, Didier Corlou - President of Bocuse d’Or Vietnam and chef Cong’s assistant Ta Thi Ha Ly. Chi Cong will combine his favorite ingredients, five-spice powder and young green rice with the compulsory ingredient, beef, to create a unique dish. The Asian contest will send the four most skilled chefs to the finale held in Lyon, France in January next year.

The Bocuse d’Or is a biennial world chef championship. The event is frequently referred to as the culinary equivalent of the Olympic Games. Since 1987, this prestigious cooking competition has been giving young chefs a golden opportunity to demonstrate their skills and offer them a tremendous springboard for their careers.
