The people committee of Hanoi is cooperating with the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications (VNPT) to set up public Wi-Fi access points on several tourist streets in the Old Quarter.

According to Mr. To Van Dong, the Head of the information and communication department of Hanoi, this plan aims at encouraging Hanoi civilization to use more Wi-Fi, as well as attract more tourists to Hanoi. The city only sets up public Wi-Fi within the Old Quarter area, where it attracts the majority of foreign tourists.

Mr. Dong said that free Wi-Fi model would not be expanded to the whole city due to high cost, and especially security issue.

Probably, internet users would enjoy the first 15 minutes for free and then pay afterward, said Mr. Dong.
