In order to guarantee that domestic aviation infrastructure is able to meet the increasing demand of both foreign and Vietnamese passengers, many new projects upgrading and constructing airports are proposed and implemented along Vietnam from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. These projects are conducted by the Civil Aviation Administration (CAAV) and funded by Vietnam’s government and international organizations.

Two largest airports, including Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi) and Tan Son Nhat (HCMC) are further invested to increase its capacity as well as quality of the infrastructure. Especially, Noi Bai International Airports is projected to expand massively and raise their annual capacity to more than 15 million passengers by 2020.

Besides the two grand airports, some other airports in the middle of Vietnam are also significantly funded to enlarge and enhance their capacity. Chu Lai International Airport in Quang Nam is invested USD 700 million in order to be able to welcome  4.1 million passengers per year by 2025, while another project is proposed for Cam Ranh Airport (Khanh Hoa) to open a new terminal as well as a longer runway.

In addition, there are also some plans to construct fresh new airports such as a 2 billion airport in Van Don Island, Quang Ninh; and a new airport in Phu Quoc Island to make these places ideal tourism destinations.

These projects are included in efforts of Vietnam’s government to holistically enhance the quality of tourism products in Vietnam to attract more international tourists. These efforts are expected to contribute to the whole domestic economy.
