Hue Royal Court music free every weekend

A traditional music troupe has been formed by Hue Academy of Music to perform royal court music for free at the weekends as an effort to draw more travelers to visit this allured city.

A traditional music troupe has been formed by Hue Academy of Music to perform royal court music for free at the weekends as an effort to draw more travelers to visit this allured city.

The group includes 21 students who are studying traditional instruments at Hue Academy of Music. They are projected to perform every Saturday from 5:00 to 6:00pm at Nghinh Luong Temple, a famous historical relic in town.

Their first show on May 19 was a great success which attracted a considerable number of audiences, including both local residents and international travelers.

Royal Court Music could be considered a cultural specialty of Hue City and elite of Vietnam’s traditional music. This was popular on regime of Nguyen Dynasty in 19th Century, was performed for royal family only at that time. In 2003, along with Tay Nguyen Gong Culture, Hue Royal Court Music was recognized as masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
