Famed professor to lecture on Long Bien Bridge

The historic bridge will be the topic of a lecture by Professor Douglas Jardine, director of Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Foreign Studies of Hanoi University.

The historic bridge will be the topic of a lecture by Professor Douglas Jardine, director of Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Foreign Studies of Hanoi University. Coming to the lecture, the audiences will have a chance to discover the life of this historic bridge from the day construction starts in early 20th century until now as well as its roles in history, culture and socity through time.

Long Bien Bridge is an iron bridge across the Red River and connects two parts of the city of Hanoi. Construction by French colonialists was finished in 1903 and the bridge was then named after Paul Doumer, Governor of Indochina at the time. Scholars have done some major academic researches about the bridge and Doulas Jardine is among the experts.

Mr. Jardine, also an enthusiastic photographer, has a great love for Long Bien and finds it to be an endless inspiration for his research and photography passion. He has organized a number of exhibitions featuring his works of Long Bien Bridge in recent years and has given several lectures about this monument of the city.

Lecture starts at 7:00pm  Mon 26th September 2011 in Cinematheque (back room) 22A Hai Ba Trung Street, Hanoi.
