This is a residential street which starts at the intersection of Tran Khat Chan, Hue street and Dai Co Viet and ends at another intersection of Minh Khai, Truong Dinh and Vong. Even though it is not specialized in one trade products like those of the Old Quarter, Hanoi is too small for any house whose front opens to a street to not sell something. You may find many clothing stores with various ranges of style and price on Bach Mai. The street has the same name with a national hospital, however Bach Mai hospital is located on Giai Phong street. Bach Mai means “white apricot (flower)”. There are some other streets and valleys nearby containing the word “mai” in their names, probably relating to Mo market, a used-to-be major market for people living in the neighbourhood. The market is now under construction.
