Tay Nguyen University was founded in 1977 right after the reunification of North and South Vietnam. This university was created based on small schools within Ede communities in Buon Me Thuot with main function to not only universalize knowledge to local residents, especially ethnic groups, but also provide well-educated labor to Tay Nguyen area. However, programs in Tay Nguyen University are quite limited with almost courses in Agriculture, Education and Health Care, but number of courses is increasing to adapt the expedited change in both society and economy of Tay Nguyen area.

Teaching team in Tay Nguyen University is much more minuscule than other top universities in the middle of Vietnam, but the quality of them is not inferior. The university contains of 344 lecturers including 6 vice-professors, 38 doctors, 138 masters and 27 staff from minor communities nearby. The contribution of this university is greatly significant to the development of Tay Nguyen area with 12,000 graduated engineers, doctors and economic bachelors from here.
